Megan L. Poirot, of Rensselaer, was charged following the crash which occurred around 2:30 a.m. Tuesday on Route 22 in the Town of North East, said Capt. John Watterson.

When deputies responded to the crash they found that Poirot had lost control of her 2009 Honda Civic, hit an embankment and then a tree on the west side of the road, Watterson said.

Poirot suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to Sharon Hospital, where she was treated and later released. Following her release, an investigation into the crash found that she was drunk and taken into custody. During processing, deputies discovered that she had a previous DWI offense in the past 10 years, raising the charge from DWI to felony DWI, Watterson added.

She was also driving without a license, Watterson said.

Poirot was released on an appearance ticket and is scheduled to appear in court in April.
